Matcha – The Magical Plant

Welcome to our Matcha post! We’re excited about the launch of our new matcha products and we though we would share some useful information & tips we discovered during the process!

Firstly, what makes Matcha, well Matcha?

Matcha refers to the method in which the leaves are grown and processed. After the leaves are picked, they are ground to a fine powder.

Matcha tea’s nutritional content is superior to other green teas, which are steeped and then discarded because the whole leaf of Matcha is entirely consumed!

How do you know you have a good quality matcha product?

  1. The colour – Electric Green (NOT yellow-green)
  2. The taste – Creamy, almost Sweet NOT BITTER
  3. The grade – Ceremonial Grade AAA Matcha is the best form available
  4. Choose organic! In organic farming if the plant is weak it’s highly possible to die during the shading period. That’s why organic Matcha is more rare and expensive, Only the naturally strong plant will naturally produce a superior quality leaf.
  5. The process – In our product, our leaves go through a steaming process which lasts for about 15 – 20 seconds, and is performed soon (within 12- 20 hours) after the leaves are picked. The purpose of the steaming is to prevent the leaves from being oxidized. With this method, most of the leaves’ natural green colour, fragrance and nutritional components are retained
  6. The way it is grown – our suppliers use the “overshadow growing” method, which benefits the compounds of amino acids, chlorophyll and protein of the plant. In organic farming if the plant is weak it’s highly likely to die during the shading period. That’s why organic Matcha is more rare and expensive, Only the naturally strong plant will naturally produce a superior quality leaf.

How do you make the most out of you Matcha?

To ensure you are getting the full effect of your product, the most common way to use maatcha is by making a matcha latte. The trick is to prepare your Matcha drinks with warm but NOT boiling water (Max 50oC). If you are preparing a latte, first mix the boiling water with the cold milk or milk alternative, then add in the matcha. Otherwise, you can mix it in with raw recipes like energy balls or smoothies or you could also take it in capsule form.
